Plitvice Lakes is the oldest and largest national park in Croatia. The park is situated in the mountainous region of the country. With its exceptional natural beauty, this area has always attracted nature lovers, and already in 1949, it was proclaimed Croatia’s first national park. The lake system consists of 16 named and several smaller unnamed lakes, cascading one into the next.
The process of tufa formation, which results in the building of the tufa, or travertine, barriers and resulted in the creation of the lakes, is the outstanding universal value, for which the Plitvice Lakes were internationally recognized in 1979 with their inscription onto the UNESCO World Heritage List.

DAY 1

After a few hours of traveling, our first destination will be Zagreb, the capital of Croatia. You will have guided sightseeing to explore this wonderful city.
After Zagreb we will head to the beautiful little town, Rastoke – also known as “Small Plitvice” and is connected to the Plitvice Lakes by the Korana river. Rastoke is a place of autochthonous ecologic and ethnographic significance due to its symbiosis of natural and civilizational features.
By the end of the day and after 40 minutes of traveling by bus, we will arrive at the accommodation. You will have an option to have dinner together.
DAY 2
We will discover the magical Plitvice National Park, which has been part of Unesco’s World Heritage list since 1979. The lake system consists of 16 named and several smaller unnamed lakes, cascading one into the next. Due to the geological substrate and characteristic hydrogeological conditions, the lake system has been divided into the Upper and Lower lakes.
After the tour we will head back to Budapest. You can expect a late evening arrival time.

The hostel is located in Korenica. In Korenica you will find all necessary amenities such as ATM, bank, supermarkets, bus stop, pharmacy and emergency, and post office. Being a village all services are within walking distance from the hostel.
