It was officially proclaimed “Best Major European Festival” at the EU Festival Awards 2013 and 2017, while No Sleep Festival held in Belgrade, the youngest member of the EXIT festival family, took home the “Best New Festival” title at the EU Festival Awards 2019. In March 2018 Regional Cooperation Council awarded EXIT Festival as Champion of Regional Cooperation for 2017.

The festival was founded in 2000 in the University Park as a student movement, fighting for democracy and freedom in Serbia and the Balkans. After the Yugoslavian general election in 2000, EXIT moved to the Petrovaradin Fortress in 2001.

EXIT has gained international media attention over the years and it was featured in articles  by CNN (“World’s Top 5 Festivals”), The Guardian (“World’s Best Festival”), The Sun (“One of Europe’s most popular music events”), Euronews, New York Times, BBC (“Top 3 Music Festivals”), Forbes (“Thanks to EXIT, Serbia is a festival hot spot worth your attention”), The Times (“Best European Festival”), MTV (World’s Best Festival”), Huffington Post, Conde Nast Traveller, Daily Mail, The Independent, Lonely Planet and many more.

As festival was formed in the spirit of genuine youth rebellion, as a movement for freedom in Serbia and peace in the Balkans, the festival’s mission statement has been clear from the beginning – to achieve social change with musicSocial responsibility is still the key aspect of the festival activities, with the main focus on environmental and humanitarian activities, the creative industries development, as well as regional cooperation.

During its 20 year old history, EXIT has hosted internationally acclaimed music stars such as Pet Shop Boys, Billy Idol, The Cure, The Killers, Guns N’ Roses, Franz Ferdinand, Motörhead, Iggy Pop, David Guetta, Massive Attack, Liam Gallagher, Grace Jones, Fatboy Slim, Cypress Hill, Beastie Boys, Snoop Dogg, Wu-Tang Clan, The Prodigy, Migos, Sex Pistols, Kraftwerk, Korn, Moby, Arctic Monkeys, Chemical Brothers, Faith No More, LCD Soundsystem, Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds, Pulp, Jamiroquai, M.I.A., Slayer, Ellie Goulding, Hardwell, Carl Cox, Avicii, Nina Kraviz and many others.

Today, the Fortress is adorned with numerous cultural institutions and recognizable symbols. Thus, the main building of the Museum of the City of Novi Sad, the Institution for making tapestries Atelje 61, the observatory and planetarium of the Astronomical Society of Novi Sad, as well as the largest informal art colony in the world Likovni krug (The Art Circle) are located on the Fortress. In addition to the biggest tourist attraction, the Underground Military Galleries, the most recognizable feature of Petrovaradin Fortress is its Clock Tower. The specificity of the clock mechanism, which is more than 300 years old, is that its small hand shows minutes, while the big hand shows hours, and even in rare moments when it is not working, it shows the correct time four times a day. In addition, it received the epithet the “drunk clock” due to the fact that this clock runs late during cold weather and speeds up during nice and warm weather.

Last updated: May 20, 2021

Thanks to successful mass vaccination programme and significantly decreased number of new Covid cases Serbian government and Crisis Response Team announced plans for country to fully reopen and get back to normalcy by 21 June.

The EXIT team will be following the current situation of the pandemic closely, always keeping in mind the safety and health of all visitors, artists and team members which is paramount. The event will be organized in close cooperation with the National Health Coordination team in Serbia, following all health and government guidelines. We are also in direct contact with the leading epidemiologists of the country to stay up-to-date.

EXIT has gone through many ups and downs during the past 20 years and always managed to provide the right answers, thanks to a flexible approach. Covid is the greatest challenge of our recent history, but as always, our goal is to prevail and send a positive message of hope to all our colleagues, friends, fellow festivals and most importantly our fans! And the most positive message we can send is pretty simple: EXIT is happening this year!

Dates
We received a go-ahead from national and local government for our dates so we’re certain that the festival will take place between 8-11 July 2021 on Petrovaradin Fortress. In the unlikely case of having to postpone the event due to a sudden change of the Covid situation across Europe, we will give you more options.

Health and safety measures at the festival
All health and safety measures, both for entering the festival and the camp, as well as for staying inside the festival site and the camp, will be defined by the Government of the Republic of Serbia and the Crisis Response Team. Our task will be to fully implement the prescribed measures and make our festival and camp 100% safe. All valid measures will be published within COVID Information here on the official website of the EXIT festival.

Conditions when entering Serbia
Conditions for entering Serbia are divided into three groups and depending on the country you come from, they can be:

a) free entry
b) PCR test or vaccination certificate
c) PCR test

Day by day, Serbia is liberating the conditions of entry for more and more countries, and you can find precise information about the status and conditions of your country on the official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Ticketing options

Your ticket will stay valid even in the unlikely case of having to change the date of our event. In case the new date is not acceptable for you for any reasons, you can your ticket for 2022.

Again, we are very confident about our current dates, so – unless dramatic changes of the pandemic situation occur – the festival will take place between 8-11 July 2021. at Petrovaradin Fortress in Novi Sad.

CAPACITY

Will all the stages be working?
The whole festival site and all usual stages will work.

Will the festival run with full capacity?
It is not yet clear if there will be any limitations to the capacity of the festival, as this will be decided within state’s measures in the following weeks. We will act accordingly, always making sure to keep fans, artists and working staff safe. All updated info will be available on these info pages.

SAFETY MEASURES

What protection measures will be present at the festival?
All protection measures within the festival site and camp will be defined by the Government of the Republic of Serbia and the Crisis Response Team, and our task will be to fully implement them in order to make festival 100% safe for visitors, contractors and staff.

All prescribed measures will be presented in detail closer to the festival, and will be available within COVID Information here on the official website of the EXIT festival.

EXIT, together with other major Serbian festivals, has developed protocols in line with the latest scientific studies conducted at several European test events that have shown that in the event of restrictions on admission to concerts and festivals to those vaccinated, who have undergone Covid-19, or who show a negative result on the kovid test, the risk of spreading the infection is almost negligible. The protocol, with the positive opinion of the Institute for Public Health of Belgrade and key epidemiologists involved in the work of the Crisis Response Team on behalf of the city of Belgrade and Novi Sad, was submitted to the Government of Serbia for approval. This document will make festivals and concerts the safest places in Serbia, far safer than other gathering places that do not have these restrictions.

Are there any special measures for visitors who come to the festival outside of Serbia?
The difference between visitors from Serbia and abroad is that foreign visitors first pass the border check, which is one form of testing more than the hosts. As for their entry into the festival, the same measures will apply as for domestic visitors.

Will it be possible to enter the festival with the same negative test that they passed when crossing the Serbian border – or will everyone still be tested at the entrance and only with such a negative test they will be allowed to the festival?
If you cross the border and enter the festival within the prescribed deadline, which is currently 48 hours, then it will not be necessary to do a new test. Be sure to check the information on the official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs before going on the trip.

Can the festival help me making PCR test? If yes, what will be the price?
Yes, we will help with testing. As for the price, we will give that information in time.

What if I get stuck in Serbia with a positive test? Can you help me somehow?
Of course, no worries. We are here to help you with everything.

In order to get current and relevant information regarding travel measures, please contact authorities in your home country.
